What is the UST Project?
UST (Unitsky String Technologies) is a next-generation
"overhead string transport" (String Rail Transport)
technology.
-
It was designed by engineer Anatoli Unitsky.
-
Simply put: It is a system of driverless electric
pods (uPods) that travel on steel cables (string rails)
tensioned in the air, above the ground.
-
It neither runs on the ground like traditional trains
or metros nor is it slow like cable cars or ropeways.
It can travel on overhead tracks at speeds ranging from
150 km/h to 500 km/h.
How does it work?
-
String Rail:
High-strength steel cables (strings) are tensioned
(pre-stressed) inside steel beams. Electric vehicles
(uPods) with steel wheels run on top of them.
-
Overhead System:
The tracks are suspended in the air, supported by poles
or anchor supports. This leaves the land, roads, forests,
or rivers below undisturbed and safe.
-
Automated (AI-Controlled):
It is a fully automated (driverless) technology,
eliminating the scope for human error.
Why is this technology beneficial?
-
Cost-Effective:
Constructing its infrastructure (tracks and pillars)
costs significantly less compared to metros or
bullet trains.
-
Relief from Traffic:
Since it operates in the air, it is completely
unaffected by city traffic jams.
-
Eco-Friendly:
It is fully electric, resulting in zero carbon emissions.
-
Effective in All Weather and Terrains:
It can be easily installed anywhere—in deserts
(like the UAE), snowy regions, mountains, forests,
or even over water bodies.
-
Safe and Quiet:
Due to the absence of track joints, the ride is
extremely quiet and jerk-free.
